During bad weather it is important to remember the ancient cat rule:

Bad weather, in the form of rain, snow, and or excessive cold or heat, is always the fault of the humans. If the weather is inclement when the human opens the door to let you out, back away hastily and try another door. Be sure to stare accusingly at the human during this session. If all doors have the same bad weather and you manage not to get booted out, hop onto a window sill and gaze mournfully out at your domain. Then try again in about half an hour.

Because we all know that some of us cats wouldn't be seen dead playing with expensive shop bought toys. Here's some tips for cheap and cheerful cat entertainment.

Paper (not plastic) bags without handles are great for pouncing on and hiding in.

Clementine from Life Frome A Cat's Perspective has a great demostrative post here.

Catnip stuffed and sewn into an old sock will make most cats delirious with happiness

Father Tom from Whisker Messages From A Chruch Cat has a wonderful post about catnip stuffed socks here.

Plastic shower curtain rings are fun either on their own, linked to others or tied to a piece of string and hung in an inviting spot.

Reflected sunlight, such as from a watch or piece of jewellery, gives cats something to chase without you barely having to move! A torch beam is also great for this purpose.

The tubes inside paper towels or toilet rolls will keep a cat happy.

'Fetch' isn't just a game fir dogs; cats love it too. A ball of foil will make a satisfying noise, too.

Any ball will satisfy a cat, although those with holes in will help the cat to carry the ball more easily. An empty bathtub provides a fascinating arena for a cat with its ball.

P.S. We're still having major issues commenting on Blogspot blogs. We can comment on some but not all. Ah, I see that you're back for another lesson in taking care of one's toesies.

You're late! But never mind that now, let's get down to business.

Now, we all know that cleanliness is next to catliness, so it is extremely important that one's toesies are clean and impeccably well groomed before one begins.

Make sure you get all of those hard to reach places, like the back of the hock. Once one's toesies are perfectly quaffed, then one is ready to begin with some gentle stretching and warming up exercises. Of course making sure that one is in a sun puddle speeds up the warming process.

Now s-t-r-e-t-c-h!

Elongate those toesies. You may wish at this point to stare blankly at nothing in particular and thing of relaxing things like, a dish of temptations or a spot of bird watching.

Now, with the warm up over we're ready to step it up a notch and attempt some of the more difficult poses, such as the 'Leg Over'. Here I am demonstrating the correct execution of the 'Leg Over'. Please note that this move is for intermediate kitties only!

You may want to check that your 'assets' are covered from view. A lady cat should never flash her 'assets', as it is unladylike and gives tom cats the wrong idea.

Excellent! You're all doing extremely well, so well in fact that I feel you're now ready to move up to the more complicated, expert moves. Here we have 'Salute to the sun'.

This is a very difficult move and as such should only be attempted in the company of a competent adult with ready access to all manner of cat treats. Again, do take great care to cover those 'assets'. Please note the careful placing of the tail.

So there we have it. Toesies feeling limber and gorgeously kissable. That was such a tough work out that I thoroughly recommend a gentle snooze in the sun. After all, we don't want to over do things now, do we?

Keeping the house free from introoders is a very important job. A job I would be unable to do if it wasn't for the installation of these nifty viewing portals, we have one in nearly every external door to the house.

The Mum got these seeds along with some mixed vegetable seeds from a Freecycler. Freecycle is a wonderful website where people give away or re-cycle stuff they no longer need.

To make up for her obvious short comings in the blogging department these past few weeks, The Mum bought us this bed off of Ebay. It was a bargain at only £3, even if The Mum did have to walk to the other side of town on the hottest day of the year so far.

Okay, so it's too warm to have the radiators on, but it still makes a good place to sit and watch all the goings on and being able to watch the goings on is something we're all very thankful for.

Lookie! Yesterday a package arrived in the mail for us. Of course that was after The Mum had already done our Monday post, so we have had to wait until today to tell you all about it! Anyone know of any beans looking for employment? Must be able to type and use a can opener, no benefits or pay. Anyway, enough of that. We won a Giveaway on our new friends, Miss Bella and Sele over at The Year Of The Cats Blog. Miss Bella and Sele are magical cats, their human is a real live witch! Not one of those scary broomstick riding ones, we hasten to add. You should stop by and say Hi.

We opened the package (with some help from The Mum, we must try harder at growing those thumbs) and there was this beautiful bag inside, Don't those beeads look irresistably whappable?

Inside the beautiful bag was an equally beautiful print with Hecate's Pet Blessing, a spell that helps protect us furries and not so furries from harm, and there was an envelope addressed: To Our Paw Relations Friends. That's us!

Mad Mum Mancat Monday

Somehow we seem to have inexplicantly upset The Mum with our Mother's Day gifts of chewed daffodils and a trashed kitchen. We can't understand why, after all why go to all the effort of cleaning everyday if you don't enjoy it. Humans can be so stupid sometimes!

Anyway, since we seem to have upset her we thought that would would go all out in the gift giving department today. The Mum just loves watching the birdies that visit our garden, especially the Blue Tits that are nesting just under our roof. For those of you that don't know, this is what a Blue Tit looks like...

Juicy, erm... we mean cute, yeah... cute. So we got The Mum a Blue Tit fledgling, but somehow it's batteries had runned out by the time we gave it to her. She didn't look too impressed. There's just no pleasing some people. Next year we just won't bother!

P.S. The Blue Tit 'fledgling' only had downy body feathers and the flight feathers had yet to develop. As the Blue Tit family are nesting in a gap where our roof meets the wall it would be impossible for the cats to rob the nest. I believe that this unlucky baby was unfortunately pushed from the nest. As baby birds grow there isn't a lot of room for moving about in the nest and sadly some do fall.

Today here in the UK it is Mother's Day. A day where beans, doggies and kitties show their appreciation for their mothers by the giving of gifts and/or cards. So last night we got to work on our surprise for The Mum. We managed to knock four cans of beer onto the floor in the kitchen, causing one to burst, spraying everything. We then got the treat jar and spread contents on the floor in the beer for good measure. Then the 'Piece De Resistance' Charlie chewed several leaves off of The Mum's new Daffodil plants.

We know, we're all give, give, give. However.... since The Mum has had a rough time of things lately we decided to go the extra distance and got her this...

Thursday In The Garden - Pest Control

Well, spring is upon us and it really is time we should start looking towards sorting out the garden. It's in an abysmal state after the snow and bad weather we had over the winter. Sadly we have lost a few plants here and there. But the good news is all but one of our catmint plants survived. Now if we can only stop chewing of the new shoots...

Of course being the mancats of the house, it's up to me and Charlie to survey the damage and start making plans of where to start the clear up. That and the fact that Lola has disappeared at the first sign of hard work!

Looks like the grass needs a good feed and a cut.

And the fence could do with a lick of paint. But more importantly, it looks as if we're in need of some pest control. We have a serious infestation of..................... DOG!

First we must apologise for our enforced absence from posting and visiting our friends. This was due to two reasons, the first being the lovely sunny weather, for some silly reason The Mum wanted to be outside in it, instead of being stuck inside on the laptop where she belongs. The second, and most aggravating reason, was the fact that The Dad was on staycation. We have no idea why it is called a staycation, because they didn't stay anywhere and in fact went out, at lot, without us! Anyway, we're back now, so enough of that - back to us. Our friends, we're aghast to report that The Mum has played a dirty trick on us. She left the treat jar, opened and on the garden table within easy reach. She then sat back with the camera and waited to see what happened...

Mmm treats! Left here, all alone, with no-cat to eat them.

Come to me my sweet little treaties! Blast! There seems to be some kind fiendish forcefield in place. Maybe if I put my paw in here....

Not So Easy Sunday

Today is not an Easy Sunday.

Today I am keeping an eye, no, I am keeping two eyes on The Mum. Just in case she has any plans of pulling a stunt like she did on Wednesday. You just can't be too careful.

P.S. Unfortunately The Mum suffered a missed miscarriage. This was due to a Blighted Ovum Pregnancy were the egg fertilises but no baby develops. Both The Mum and The Dad had come to terms with there being no baby and knew that the miscarriage would eventually happen, but they did not expect to happen in quite such a frightening manner. But rest assured after an overnight stay in hospital, The Mum has been declared fit and well.

Stupid Mum Saturday

Wednesday afternoon The Mum started losing a lot of her red stuffs, which is pretty careless if you ask us. Not only did she manage to misplace her red stuffs, she managed to misplace so much that she had to go in a People Transportation Unit complete with flashy lights and noise makers to see the human v-e-t, taking The Dad with her. A lot of fuss about nothing!

Of course The Mum managed to orchestrate all this before she had the decency to feed us our lunch. We were left abandoned and hungry for eleventy billion hours, our lack of opposable thumbs preventing us from using the telephone to call the RSPCA for help. After what must have been a week and a day The Dad came back home and he had only gone and forgotten to bring The Mum back with him!

The Dad attempted to feed us but did so in a manner that we're not accustomed to. So, to show our continuing displeasure at our, quite frankly, dismal treatment it was decided that we should collectively vomit upon the floor.

Eventually after three months and a year, The Mum came back. As according to ancient cat law we proceeded to ignore her very existence for a suitable amount of time in relation to the wrongs that we have suffered, or until our tummies rumbled, which ever came soonest.

But The Mum is now back and we hope that normal service will be resumed as soon as possible.

Annual Purr-Fur-Mance Review 2010

So, it's that time again. Time for The Mum's Annual Purr-Fur-Mance Review. We know, we're not that hopeful either.

Lets just remind ourselves exactly how The Mum did in last year's review.

"An overall rating of Medium, Two Paws has been achieved. However we do believe that there is more then a little room for improvement and more treats, yes, more treats!"

Oh dear, suddenly we have a deep sense of foreboding. Anyway, on with this review.

Quantity of Output:

Well, what can we say really. We have noticed that there seems to be a regular cycle of inactivity. This seems to coincide with new game requests received via Facebook. There have been the usual excuses, siting 'illness' and being 'busy'. Again feeble and lack luster excuses dredged up time and time again when she is guilty of nothing less then being extremely lazy and lacking in creative thinking. What do we pay you for woman? Oh, that's right, we don't actually pay you. But if we did, we wouldn't. YOU'RE FIRED!

However it is at this point our legal council has reminded us to point out there there has been on some occasions, those occasions being exceedingly rare, flurries of activity and creative posting on our blog.

Rating: Medium - One Paw and One Squat. After much deliberation and under duress (read: threats of food privileges being removed), it was decided that a compromise of one paw and one squat should be delivered. Again, much room for improvement whilst we look through this rather convenient stack of Resumes

Quality of Output:

Again as per the last review, the quality of posting has far outweighed the quantity in several key areas. The 'Twelve Days Til Christmas' run of posting was sheer genius (on our part) and we particularly like the recent 'Suspicious Saturday - Whodunnit?' series. Of course detailing only the best of our works of improvement and redecoration.

The Mum's photographical skills have vastly improved since the last review, resulting in clearer and far more flattering images, even though one or two of the more questionable images seem to have slipped through the net.

Rating: High - Four Paws

Client Pawticipation:

Again there are many electronic and magic ways in which to contact us. either via e-mail, our personal Facebook page or even through our very own Fan Page, again accessible through Facebook. However, the checking of e-mail and the updating of said pages is still a hit and miss affair. But we now have our very own Twitter Account to which our blog automatically posts to.

Rating: Medium - Two Paws.

Pawticipation (Part II):

The Mum has made a real effort this year to make sure that we're included in all the fun stuff and fund raising going on throughout the Cat Blogosphere. We have managed to enter several competitions (even some doggie hosted ones) and we were even able to bid on a few of the fund raising auctions. However, it has come to our attention that should The Mum pay more attention to stuff that is going on and not simply forget about scheduled events, then we would be able to pawticipate more.

Rating: Medium - Two Paws.

Client Satisfaction:

Again we average around 25 comments per post. More popular posts being our Christmas series of 'Twelve Days Til Christmas'. we also get a smattering of comments and 'likes' on Facebook and maybe one or two re-tweets. still we believe that this could be vastly improved if The Mum would just get off Pseudo Farming sites and instead visit and link up with our friends.

Rating: Medium - Two Paws. Last year we awarded Four Paws, but we feel that this time such a rating would be far too generous.

Overall Rating: Medium - Two Paws

An overall rating of Two Paws is disappointing as this shows little or no improvement since last year's review. Perhaps we did not make our position clear enough in 2009. The Mum is really going to have to pull her socks up and knuckle down if there is ever going to be a measured change in her performance.

In the meantime, do you guys know of any good typists? Cat lover a must!

She'd Better Be Thankful, Thursday

So, what do you get the Mum that has everything? Gift giving can be a veritable mine field, so you have to choose really carefully before hand to be sure that your gift will be excepted and appreciated in the correct manner befitting your generosity.

Anyway. The mum is still not feeling to well, so we decided that a gift was in order to make her feel better and more importantly, guilt trip her into posting something of merit on our sorely neglected blog.

After much deliberation we went for the 'Dead Meece' a true classic amongst the gift giving feline. Some may feel the the 'Deed Meece' is a predictable gift to give and shows a lack of flair or indeed imagination at the point of gift selecting. Why go for a 'Dead Meece' when a 'Dead Burd' says it so much better? We feel that this is rather a mute point, as us felines are busy socialites and have far more pressing matters to attend to then the selection and hunting of gifts. We operate a very much smash and grab system of gift giving.

So, lets look at our selection, detailed in the picture above. Note, if you will, the long scaly and in some cases slightly hairy tail, you don't get that with a 'Dead Burd'. Also note the matted wet styling of the furs, you can tell that this gift has been left in the rain for a day or so before the presentation. This shows a worthy amount of care and attention to detail. What more could one want then a 'Dead Meece'?

We're all give, give, give, that's our trouble.

This is our guttering.

It should be up there!

Due to some bad weather and strong winds experienced recently the back guttering to our house fell off and smashed against the glass garden table that was stored away for the winter. Thankfully nothing other then the guttering broke and thankfully due to the dismal weather we weren't outside at the time it came down or it could have squashed us flat!

It's supposed to be fixed on Friday, but we will see.

Thankful Thursday - Time to MUMBO!

One thing we're truly thankful for is our nippy narnas. We used to have four nippy narnas, but sadly one of our nippy narnas had to go to that great toy box in the sky because some one *cough*Thomas*cough* chewed a hole in it and all the nips escaped. And a nippy narna without any nip is well, not a narna worth bothering with!

We love to do what The Mum calls the 'Banana Mumbo', where we lick the narna and then rub it all over our heads. Here is a little video of Lola showing exactly how the Banana Mumbo is done. Note, it's all about the technique.
