Thursday in the garden with Lola Fannola

So, today it is my turn to show you around our garden. I love spending time in the garden, especially our front garden as it is a complete sun trap for most of the day. Sometimes mum wishes our front garden was round the back, but then it wouldn't be our front garden then and I wouldn't be able to watch the people walking past.

Mum planted some Red Star Cordyline plants in with the Ribes, flowering red current to protect it from the rather strong winds we get. While mum has put the Ribes against a warm sunny wall, strong winds can sometimes burn the leaves of the Ribes. In the black pot is a Trailing Annabel Fuschia that managed to survive the snows to come back this spring. It was the only one that did, so much couldn't bring herself to throw it out, so repotted it.

Mum also planted another Red Star Cordyline, some mixed Violas and some white Trailing Lobelia. Under my close snoopervision of course (the cordyline looks a bit lopsided in this picture, but mum straightened it up as soon as I pointed out her mistake). Notice the cool cat and dog ornaments?

To go with the Violas in the pot with the cordyline mum also got some Viola hanging baskets. They take a lot of looking after, you have to water them lots as they dry out quickly and you must remember to pick off the dead and dying flower heads if you want them to flower through until the summer. I snoppervise all watering and dead heading activities in the garden. Sometimes I even try to catch the water coming out of the watering can. Next week we will show you how out Cat Mint Wheelbarrow is coming on.

Here is a picture of Mrs Blue Tit who is nesting with her family under the guttering on the fornt of our house. Mum says that it is typical Mrs Blue Tit has decided to nest there as mum has provided several bird nest boxes for her to choose from. Silly Tit!

I hope you enjoyed my first gardening post.

Don't forget to check out our gardening friends.

  1. Lola Fannola we loves your very first post. You are obviously a great gardener. We can't wait to see the Trailing Annabel Fuschia blooming. We are rather fond of Fuschias although we don't have very good luck with them, ours never comes back. ~AFSS

  5. Well done for your first time, Lola! You did an excellent job of showing us around your front garden. Actually, Dante is doing the same thing today, too. He is also a member of your Gardening Society (he's Secretary of Fertilization).

I'm very impressed at how you snoopervise everything that goes on and make sure it's done properly, and how you know the names of all the different flowers and plants.

  6. Looking good! Our gardening is limited to our balcony but Mom makes it nice and pretty for us to look out at. Sometimes she even lets us out on the balcony.

  11. Hi Lola! I'm wondering if you've gotten to taste the violas--they sure do look inviting!

And why do birds scorn the houses we put up for them? I'd much rather a secure place than not, but I'm a cat.

  13. we think you have a natural talent for posting about gardening; we also admired your plot - lovely and it is clear you have a big say around your place. We aren't allowed in the front on account of the busy road (and our skittishness). Love Darcy and Bingley
